Hi, I’m Alex!

I’m a multimedia illustrator with a practice that includes traditional 2D media, sculpture, and graphic design. I create shadow boxes that combine the application of 2D and 3D design through layered construction to create depth. By merging traditional figurative portraiture with abstract and surreal environments, I invite viewers to peer into a psychedelic fantasy world where unexpected compositions, colors, and textures emerge.

In my pieces, I combine traditional techniques such as pen and ink, graphite, watercolor, and acrylic paint on unique rigid paper shapes with unconventional materials like fibers, beadwork, stoning, and integrated lighting to further enhance dimensionality. I’ve recently been using technology to add layering pieces to my work.

My work is deeply influenced by my passion for the transformative art of drag, exploring my experiences as a queer artist, and my interest in the performative aspects of gender. I’m also intrigued by the mysticism of folklore and the occult, as well as the precision of medical and botanical illustration.
